Book Report #1: The Miracle of Early Rising: What Do Rich People Do Before 8 AM?

The initial purpose of wanting to read this book was to understand how to wake up early, but after reading it, I found that it was completely off-topic. The author talked more about how to become richer, which you can also see from the table of contents.

So, I didn't learn how to wake up early, but I did gain some insights about setting life goals.

Overall rating: ⭐⭐⭐

Step 1: Envision the future.#

Imagine what you will be like in the future, living the kind of life you desire. Write a letter to your present self from the perspective of your future self. Similarly, you can write a letter to your future self, describing your current situation and seeking help.

When looking at your life from a future perspective, it should be the life you have always desired, without worrying about how to achieve it. Consider the possibilities of realizing this life, as this is something you need to address now.

Step 2: The New Three Circles Theory.#

With a vision of a better future, don't rush into action. Let's learn the theory first. The New Three Circles Theory is an improvement on Jim Collins' bestselling book "Good to Great," consisting of three points.

  • Skills: Find a skill that you excel at and have more experience in compared to others. It should be something that can be further developed over time.
  • Opportunities: Identify a specific field that can meet the needs of the masses.
  • Passion: The fuel that keeps you going, enabling you to persevere in the face of setbacks and choices.

Having skills allows you to produce products. Without them, you will fail due to inadequate technical abilities. Having opportunities allows you to produce products that meet the needs of the masses. Without them, you will go bankrupt because customers won't pay. Passion enables you to persist throughout the journey, serving as a continuous source of motivation and fuel.

Step 3: Practice goal setting.#

  • Set goals in your peak state: Set goals that resonate more strongly and efficiently when you are in your best and most confident state.
  • Stay flexible, goals can change: If a goal doesn't motivate you or provide any assistance, you can delete it.
  • Revisit goals at the right time: Review daily whether you have deviated from your plans, ensuring that you continue on the established path.
  • Reward and recharge: Give your brain a break and change your thoughts. Whenever I return from a long vacation, my thoughts become more positive, and I review things that have been buried in my to-do list box and reestablish my plans.
